ABOUT
THE SWCD
Aitkin SWCD offers information and advice to landowners of all kinds. We assist in water planning, shoreland buffers / vegetation protection, educational activities, cost-share assistance programs, and provide forest management direction.
At Aitkin SWCD, we have committed our careers to the conservation of our local natural resources. We love what we do, because we love where we live, and we strive to protect the lands, and natural resources around us.
The exciting part of safe-guarding our local resources, is that the efforts of a few, benefit many!
OUR HISTORY.
On May 16, 1957, the Aitkin County Soil and Water Conservation District was established by local farmers and others to “provide technical and financial assistance to landowners.”
This assistance took the form of survey and design of erosion control practices; cost-share for projects like fencing; advice and information to landowners planning to develop property; and education programs and contests for school-aged children.
